Washington, D.C. is sponsoring one of the eleven boats that will complete the race in Plymouth, England later this year. As a host city for the race, Events DC is organizing a festive salute to the Clipper Round the World Race when the vessels complete Leg 7 from Seattle to the nation's capital. Sailing up Chesapeake Bay and the Potomac River, the race boats will line The Wharf for galas, tours, and crew changes to usher in the official start of summer.RACE HISTORY

Since the first Clipper Race crew left Plymouth in October 1996 on board eight 60-foot yachts, the race's increase in size is almost immeasurable. Today more than 5,000 people and three generations of Clipper ocean racing fleets have competed in what is known to be the world's toughest ocean racing challenge.

The route of each edition of the race is unique, often formed by Host Ports around the globe. In the race's history, more than fifty cities have played host to the Clipper Race.

SUMMER 2024

After completing the USA Coast to Coast Leg the eleven boats will stage along Washington, D.C.'s waterfront to take on new crews, offer visitors and guests opportunities to engage, and prepare for the final leg and race home. Waterway Guide Media, Events DC, and other team sponsors will rally around with dedicated events and activities to commemorate the success of the skippers and crews. Watch for dates and times in the weeks ahead and plan to visit with family and friends as the race boats restart their journey on the Potomac River, down the Chesapeake Bay, and begin their race across the Atlantic.IMPORTANT LINKS
