For travelers journeying along the Chesapeake Waterways this spring, docking in Chesapeake, Virginia, offers convenience and a host of fun activities to explore.

Many boaters choose to moor in the Great Bridge area of Chesapeake, located at Mile 12.0 of the Intracoastal Waterway. Boaters will find free tie-up piers for recreation vessels available on both sides of the Great Bridge Bridge for up to 48 hours.

This location allows visitors to walk to delicious dining, like Lockside Bar and Grill, where patrons enjoy the day's fresh catch. Big Woody's, a casual waterfront pub, and Sunrise Breakfast Shoppe are also just a few steps away.  You will also find a grocery store, a pharmacy, and retails shops all within walking distance. Two great breweries, Big Ugly and Studly Brewing are less than 3 miles away.

Numerous boaters enjoy strolling along the picturesque trail in Battlefield Park adjacent to the Intracoastal Waterway. This easy hike offers a flat and level path to observe Osprey, Cardinals, Bald Eagles, and other wildlife. The trailhead is situated by the Great Bridge Battlefield & Waterways Museum. Here, you can learn about the role Great Bridge played in the Revolutionary War and even visit a replica of a tavern.

Right across the water is Atlantic Yacht Basin, an established and reputable marina offering fuel, repair, and storage facilities. This is also home to River Dogs, a kayak rental and tour company. Whether you are a kayaking aficionado or a newcomer, River Dogs can accommodate you. Their pontoon boat carries up to 8 people and kayaks to the gentle Elizabeth River for a guided picturesque and easy paddle.

Grab an Uber and head to some of the great festivals and events happening this spring, including the Chesapeake Jubilee, a family carnival with fireworks, live music, arts and crafts, the Kiwanis Shrimp feast, and amusement rides and games going on May 16-19, 2024.

You won't want to miss the Rock the Park Concert on June 22, 2024, from 6PM-10 PM in nearby Chesapeake City Park. This family-friendly outdoor concert features The Wailers. Enjoy a variety of food from food trucks, beer, wine, and orange crushes available for purchase.

Every Wednesday and Saturday from 8 AM to noon, Chesapeake City Park hosts a farmers' market featuring fresh produce and specialty goods like homemade pies and jams, honey, cheeses, and more.

Traveling the Elizabeth River? You can restock provisions, fuel up, or moor for a night or longer at Top Rack Marina. It provides access to power, drinking water, internet, and showers. Plus, it features Amber Lantern Restaurant, which is famous for its fresh seafood and steaks. No taxi is needed; it's right on the water. Or visit their ship store to load up on sandwiches and tackle for a day on the water.

For boaters looking for concierge and lifestyle services, GoChesapeake.net is a great option. Contact them in advance; they will have your provisions ready when you arrive. They'll arrange everything from bike rentals to prescription pick-up, help with Amazon returns, and can even provide a chef, a public notary, boat cleaners, and pet sitters. They go the extra mile.
