Sanibel Island, FL

Sanibel Island, FL

Sanibel's georgraphy features a shallow crescent lying at an angle to the currents. That accident of shape and location causes what are said to be the world’s most prolific shell deposits and the resultant “Sanibel stoop” of the island’s visitors.

More than 300 varieties of shells have been found on these beaches. The best shelling is at low tide after a storm when winds and waves have washed a new supply up on the beaches. Sanibel Island can have as many as four tides a day.

The best way to see Sanibel Island is on the miles of bicycle paths.
